This term, year four have been learning all about World War 2. To support their learning, Mrs Davies and Mrs Beer arranged for the children to take part in a World War 2 day. The children learned what it would be like to be a child during WW2. I spoke to some of the children about the day and what they had learned....
Isobel Clarke, a child in year four, said "We dressed up as evacuees and in clothes that children would wear around the time of WW2." "First we experiened an air raid siren, it was really loud and scary." Kieran another child from year 4 commneted "Yes, when we heard the siren we had to get under the table because that's what people would have done in WW2."
The children also made their own Anderson shelters. They put candles and blankets inside and even tried on gas masks. Isobel told me, "About six or seven people could fit in a shelter, it needed to be big enough for a family to fit inside."
When asked what how they would feel if they were a child that had to be evacuated, this is what Kieran and Isobel had to say...
"I would be really scared,I really dont know what I would do." "I know I would be tired because of all the sirens going off and I would miss my mum."
